Body Prayer
Body Prayer: Praying with Your Whole Self
Body Prayer brings gentle movement and physical awareness into prayer. Through walking, stretching, stillness, or meaningful gestures, we spend intentional time with God—with or without words.
Where It Comes From
Body Prayer is rooted in the biblical tradition of worshiping God with our whole being. Throughout Scripture, people pray by kneeling, standing, lifting their hands, bowing, walking, and dancing. These physical expressions remind us that prayer involves the body as well as the heart and mind.
How to Practice
Choose a simple physical activity, such as taking a quiet nature walk.
Move slowly and become aware of your breathing, your body, and God’s presence. Allow what you see and experience to become part of your prayer. Speak to God if words arise, or simply enjoy doing something together with God.
End by becoming still and offering a brief prayer of gratitude.
